Home, intensive, or commercial: which cross trainer do you need?
You choose a cross trainer based on how often and by whom it will be used. There are three types:
- Cross trainer for home (€ 1,095 to € 2,195). Magnetic resistance and a 9 to 10 kg flywheel, for 2 to 3 times a week. For example, the DKN XC-190i or the Sole E25.
- Intensive home use, with incline or touchscreen (€ 2,495 to € 4,495). Electric incline, heavier flywheels and apps, for long sessions or multiple users. For example, the Sole E35 with Wi-Fi, or the DKN XC Pro with a 21.5-inch touchscreen.
- Commercial crosstrainer (€ 2,695 to € 8,995). Spirit equipment with 40 resistance levels, for practices, hotels and corporate gyms. For example, the Spirit CE980 or the CE1000ENT with streaming and screen mirroring.

What should you look out for?
Stride length
If the stride length is too short, you will walk in short steps and the movement will feel unnatural. Most of our cross trainers feature a 51 or 53 cm stride. If people of different heights will be using the equipment, an adjustable stride is well worth the investment.
Ceiling height
On a cross trainer, you stand higher than you might think. Add your body height, the height of the pedal in its highest position, and about 10 cm of margin. If an incline is used, add a little more.
Incline and pedaling backward
With an electronic incline, you engage different leg muscles. The XC-310i, Sole E25, E35, E95, and XC Pro each feature 20 incline levels. Pedaling backward places more emphasis on the hamstrings and glutes, which is possible on the XC-310i as well as the Sole E25, E35, and E95.
Power, weight, and doorways
Self-powered Spirit equipment can be placed freely in the room without a cable to a wall outlet. Most home models support 150 kg, while commercial Spirit equipment supports 200 kg. Also measure doorways and stairs: the XC-310i weighs 104 kg.
Showroom tip: stand on the equipment with the incline at its highest position and have someone measure your highest point. This ensures that the cross trainer will fit under your ceiling at home, even in a basement or under a slanted roof.
Which cross trainer for whom?
- At home: choose based on stride length and ceiling height, and select an incline if you are looking for variety. You can find more ideas under home gym.
- Physiotherapy practice: a watt program, such as on the XC-200i and XC-310i, makes the workload repeatable from session to session. Also view fitness equipment for physiotherapists.
- Hotel and corporate gym: choose a commercial Spirit model, which is built for many users per day. The CE980 has been tested for 10,000 hours. See fitness for hotels, corporate fitness outfitting, and renting and leasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a cross trainer good for your knees?
Yes, because your feet stay on the pedals, so there is no landing shock like when running. If you have knee pain, consult your physiotherapist first.
Does an elliptical trainer also work your upper body?
Yes, the moving arm levers involve your shoulders, arms, and back. If you only want to train your legs, you can hold the stationary handles.
Elliptical or treadmill: which suits you best?
A treadmill is the choice if you want to learn to run or are training for a running race. An elliptical trainer works arms and legs simultaneously without landing impact, making it more suitable if you have joint issues.
What does the delivery and installation of an elliptical trainer cost?
Delivery is free in the Benelux region for orders from € 199, and you have a 30-day trial period. Installation by our in-house team costs between € 75 and approximately € 350 per device, depending on the size, including removal of the packaging. You can find more details under installation.
What warranty do you get on an elliptical trainer?
You get a 2-year warranty on elliptical trainers from DKN, Sole, and Spirit. You can read more about service and warranty on our warranty page.
Can I test an elliptical trainer first?
Yes, you are welcome to drop by our showroom in Ranst from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 AM and 6:30 PM, Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Making an appointment ensures someone is available to assist you.
