Adjustable bench, bench with attachments or specific bench: which weight bench do you need?

The choice depends on how many exercises you want to perform on a single bench. There are three types:

  • Adjustable bench (€ 399 to € 499). Flat, incline and upright, for bench press, incline press, shoulder press and rows. For example, the MT-HD3000 Military.
  • Bench with attachments (€ 675 to € 750). A Military bench with plate-loaded attachments for 50 mm weight plates, for legs and biceps without requiring an extra machine. For example, the Military bench + Leg & Biceps.
  • Specific bench (€ 349 to € 677). A single exercise, such as preacher curls or back extensions. For example, the Body-Solid GHYP345B.

You can find a bench combined with a rack, barbell, and weights in our complete sets.

What should you look out for?

Load capacity

The load capacity is your body weight plus your barbell or dumbbells. For the FID2000 and HD2000, there is also a maximum user weight of 160 kg. Leave some margin, because picking up and putting down weights creates peak loads.

Adjustment positions

The HD2000 and HD3000 have 9 back and 3 seat positions; on the HD2000, the back adjusts from 0° to 90°. The FID2000 has 7 back positions from -15° to 85°, so it also offers decline. A seat that adjusts along with the back prevents you from sliding during incline exercises.

Dimensions and storage

When bench pressing, you place your feet flat on the floor: the HD3000 is 43 cm high, the FID2000 is 42.65 cm. The HD3000 measures 127 x 61 cm and can be stored vertically, while the FID2000 weighs 33.6 kg and rolls on wheels. An M8 Precision rack gives you 110 cm of inner width.

Choose attachments at the time of purchase

The attachments for the Military bench are designed specifically for its intended configuration. A standard HD3000 Military cannot be upgraded afterwards, so decide in advance whether you want to train your legs on the bench.

Showroom tip: lie down on the different benches and compare the thickness, width, and firmness of the back cushions. Then tilt the backrest and push off firmly with your feet to immediately feel how stable the bench is.

Which weight bench for whom?

  • At home: an adjustable bench is sufficient for almost all exercises. Short on space? Choose a bench that you can store upright, or a version with attachments instead of a separate leg machine.
  • PT studio: the bench will be adjusted all day long, so choose the HD3000 with scratch- and tear-resistant upholstery. See fitness equipment for personal trainers.
  • Physiotherapy practice: for targeted work on the lower back and torso, a hyperextension or Roman bench is more useful than a second adjustable bench. More in fitness equipment for physiotherapists.
  • Hotel and corporate gym: choose a sturdy frame that can withstand intensive use. Also check out custom corporate fitness solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What weight bench do you need for home?

For most home gyms, an adjustable bench is sufficient. The FID2000 is a great starting point, while those who lift heavy will prefer the HD3000 Military.

Do you need a decline function?

Not necessarily. Decline is useful for the lower chest and certain abdominal exercises, but a standard adjustable bench is sufficient for bench presses, incline presses and shoulder presses.

Can you combine a weight bench with a power rack?

Yes, that is the most common combination. The Martech M1 Gym bundle includes the FID2000, and the M8 bundles include the HD3000 Military; when purchasing a separate power rack, make sure to check that the bench fits between the uprights.

How is a weight bench delivered?

Orders of € 199 or more include free delivery within the Benelux, backed by a 30-day trial period. Upon request, our in-house team handles assembly for € 75 to approximately € 350 per machine, including the removal of packaging materials.

What warranty comes with a weight bench?

Martech benches come with a 3-year warranty and a lifetime warranty on the frame. Body-Solid and Marbo include a standard 2-year warranty.

Can I test weight benches beforehand?

Yes, visit our showroom in Ranst: Monday to Thursday from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Booking an appointment ensures someone is available to assist you.
