Foldable, heavy-duty or commercial: which treadmill do you need?
How often, how fast and how many people will be running determines the type more than the brand. There are four types:
- Foldable treadmill (€ 1,495 to € 3,095). Folds up after use, suitable for walking, jogging and running in an apartment or spare room. For example, the Sole F65 or the DKN AiRun-Z 2.0, which folds into a Z-shape.
- Heavy-duty treadmill for intensive use (€ 2,595 to € 6,495). Stronger motors and more spacious running surfaces, designed for daily running, sprints and practices. For example, the Spirit XT685 or the DKN Pro Run X, featuring 19 programs and a VO2max test.
- Treadmill for incline training or with curved running surface (€ 4,995). The DKN TMC Pro ranges from -5 to 40% incline, with a 5 hp peak power. The DKN Curved Treadmill features a curved running surface.
- Commercial treadmill (€ 4,895 to € 12,995). Spirit treadmills built to run for hours every day, accommodating many different athletes. For example, the Spirit CT980, tested for up to 10,000 hours, or the CT1000ENT with screen mirroring and HDMI.

What should you look out for?
Motor and power
With 3.0 hp, you can certainly run. If you are training for a marathon, often running above 12 km/h, or if multiple people will be training on it, choose 4 hp or more. A brushless motor does not have carbon brushes that wear out. The AC motor of the ProRun 2.0 reaches a peak of 9 hp, for long and frequent sessions.
Running surface
For jogging and running, we recommend a width of at least 55 cm. If you are tall or sprint, also look at the length, such as the 160 x 60 cm of the Pro Run X. The DKN Pro Run absorbs shocks at the front of the running deck where your foot lands.
Maximum user weight
Allow for a margin of at least 20 kg above the heaviest user. The Sole F65 and F80 support 150 kg, the F85 165 kg, and the AiRun-Z 2.0 and TMC Pro 170 kg. The EnduRun 2.0 and ProRun 2.0 go up to 180 kg, and the commercial Spirit treadmills up to 200 kg.
Incline and decline
Most of our treadmills go up to a 15% incline. The DKN Pro Run goes up to 21% for those who do a lot of uphill walking. If you also want to train going downhill, the Sole F85 drops down to -6.
Location, power, and clearance
A treadmill always requires a wall outlet. Choose a dry room with a flat floor: moisture and frost are bad for electronics and the belt. Also measure the path to the room. The ProRun 2.0 measures 214.5 x 93 x 168 cm and weighs 198 kg, while the EnduRun 2.0 measures 185 x 82 cm and weighs 130 kg.
Showroom tip: if your treadmill is going on an upper floor, lay a rubber floor or a mat first. This keeps vibrations to the room below to a minimum. You can find them under rubber tiles and sports floors.
Which treadmill for whom?
- Home: if you train 2 to 4 times a week, a foldable treadmill that can be moved aside after use is usually sufficient. You can find more ideas under home gym.
- PT studio: the treadmill runs all day with short sessions per client. The ProRun 2.0 is built for PT studios and intensive use. See also fitness equipment for personal trainers.
- Physiotherapy practice: DKN designed the EnduRun 2.0 for physiotherapy practices and PT studios, featuring a fixed frame and a brushless motor. Also check out fitness equipment for physiotherapists.
- Hotel and corporate gym: everyone trains unsupervised, so choose a commercial Spirit treadmill. On the Spirit CT900TFT, as an operator you decide which websites, language, and updates appear on the screen. See fitness for hotels, setting up corporate fitness, and renting and leasing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why don't you sell a treadmill under € 1,000?
Because cheaper treadmills usually have a narrower running surface and a lighter motor, which you notice as soon as you jog or train more often. Even our entry-level models feature a 3.0 hp motor and support 150 kg or more.
Is a foldable treadmill just as sturdy as a fixed one?
A good foldable treadmill like the Sole F85 or DKN RoadRun i 2.0 is sturdy enough for most home runners. For heavy runners, sprint training, or multiple users, it is better to choose a fixed frame.
Can I use Zwift or Kinomap on a treadmill?
Yes, you can connect the Sole F63, F65 and Spirit XT685 to Zwift or Kinomap via Bluetooth FTMS. The Sole F80 and F85 feature a touchscreen with wifi and apps like YouTube and Netflix. The Pro Run X combines an 18.5-inch touchscreen with wifi, Kinomap and Zwift.
How often do you need to lubricate a treadmill?
That depends on the model, so please follow the manual. The DKN Pro Run X lubricates automatically via the console, the Spirit CT1000ENT features a self-lubricating belt and the Spirit CT800ENT has a maintenance-free deck. For every model, check whether the belt runs in the center and keep the area underneath free of dust.
What are the costs for delivery and installation of a treadmill?
Delivery is free in the Benelux region for orders from € 199, and you have a 30-day trial period. Installation by our in-house team costs between € 75 and approximately € 350 per device, depending on the size, including removal of the packaging. You can find more details under installation.
What kind of warranty do you get on a treadmill?
You receive a 2-year warranty on treadmills from DKN, Sole and Spirit. Read more about service and warranty on our warranty page.
Can I test a treadmill first?
Yes, you are welcome to drop by our showroom in Ranst from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 AM and 6:30 PM, Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Making an appointment ensures someone is available to assist you.
