Home model or Studio series: which pilates reformer do you need?
A reformer is a frame with a sliding carriage, springs and ropes, on which you train against adjustable resistance. With Wood Reformer, you can choose from three options:
- Home model (€ 1,949 to € 2,399). Solid oak or walnut, foldable and suitable for every level. For example The Oak or The Walnut.
- Studio series (€ 2,749 to € 3,449). A 40 cm high frame with 6 springs, 3 spring bars and all accessories included. For example The Oak Studio.
- Studio with extension (€ 3,149). With The Maple Studio in maple, you can optionally add a Professional Tower and an Extended Reformer Platform.

What should you look out for?
Frame height
The Studio models are 40 cm high. A higher frame makes it easier to get on and off, which is particularly noticeable during classes, for older users, and for those recovering from an injury.
Springs and spring bars
The springs determine how the reformer feels and how smoothly you build up the resistance. With 6 springs and 3 spring bars, you have more combinations, allowing for smaller steps between light and heavy.
Wood type
Oak is lighter, walnut is darker, and maple is only available in the Studio series. Wood provides a warm look that fits well in a living room or practice space, something a steel reformer achieves less easily.
Storage
After your session, you can store the reformer upright or fold it away. Measure both the space where you train and the space where it will be stored when not in use beforehand.
Replaceable parts
All parts are replaceable. If the springs are worn out after years of use, you can simply order new ones instead of a new reformer.
Which reformer for whom?
- At home: The Oak or The Walnut. Because they are foldable, they fit into a room that is not exclusively used for pilates. See also home gym.
- PT studio: the Studio range, with enough variation to teach classes at different levels. More on fitness equipment for personal trainers.
- Physiotherapy practice: a Studio model, so you can dose the resistance per treatment in small steps. View fitness equipment for physiotherapists.
- Hotel and company gym: a wooden reformer fits into a wellness or yoga room and folds away when the space is used differently. See fitness equipment for hotels and renting and leasing.
