Customer case: a private fitness space in a narrow outbuilding in Westerlo
Written by Thibaud Martens, fitness advisor at Fitnessdepot
In a narrow outbuilding in Westerlo, we set up a private fitness room of approximately 27 m² centered around one multifunctional machine: the Martech M14 with sliding bench, complemented by a set of hexagon dumbbells, bumper plates, and a mirrored wall. Because the space is narrow, a single machine combines strength training, cable exercises, and leg workouts. The budget indication ranged between € 10,000 and € 12,500, including flooring, mirrors, and installation.

What the client wanted
- A private fitness room in an outbuilding near the house.
- As many exercises as possible in a narrow space, without it feeling cluttered.
Our approach
A narrow building cannot accommodate a row of separate machines. That is why we opted for the Martech M14, the most complete functional trainer in our range. A single frame houses a power rack, a smith machine, cables combining a 1:1 and 2:1 ratio, and a sliding bench for leg presses, hack squats, and leg curls.
The M14 is positioned against the long wall, leaving the rest of the room free for movement. The dumbbell set with its two-tier rack and bumper plates complement the free weights. Three mirrors make the narrow space look wider and help you monitor your posture.
The 3D design
Before anything was delivered, the customer saw in 3D how the M14 and dumbbells would fit into the outbuilding.
The result
The installation
Our team installed the custom sports flooring, attached the mirrors, and assembled and adjusted the M14. We took away the packaging waste and cleaned the room, allowing the customer to start training immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which machine fits into a narrow fitness room?
An all-in-one rack such as the Martech M14 combines a power rack, a smith machine, cables, and leg training into a single frame. This preserves floor space for movement in narrow areas.
Can you use an outbuilding as a private fitness room?
Yes. Rubber sports flooring protects the subfloor and dampens sound. We first create a 3D layout of the room so you can see what fits before any delivery takes place.
How much space does a Martech M14 require?
The M14 takes up significant space when used with the sliding bench. Additionally, allow for about 1 m of free space around the rack; the exact layout is determined together in the 3D design.
