Martech M8 Twinratio or Precision: which one should you choose?

Written by Thibaud Martens, fitness advisor at Fitnessdepot

Choose the Martech M8 Twinratio if you want to switch between heavy 1:1 cable exercises and lighter 2:1 exercises with a long cable travel; choose the M8 Precision if you want to train with the actual weight (1:1) and determine the angle of each cable exercise yourself with 180° swiveling arms. The M8 Precision costs € 2,900, while the M8 Twinratio costs € 3,250. As a bundle, you pay € 3,700 and € 3,999 respectively.

Both are a power rack and functional trainer in one, built on the same M8 frame. The only difference is the cable system. They stand side by side in our showroom in Ranst, which is the best way to feel the difference.

What do both racks have in common?

The frame is identical: 3 mm thick steel, 75 x 75 mm uprights, 30 front positions for J-hooks and spotter arms, tested up to 500 kg. Both feature two 90 kg weight stacks (upgradable to 110 kg with an expander pin), aluminum ball-bearing pulleys, a net weight of 375 kg, and a lifetime frame warranty. They are freestanding, with no floor anchoring required.

How the Twinratio works

The Twinratio has 4 pulleys and two cable ratios. If you connect the two pulleys, you train in 1:1: 90 kg on the stack equals 90 kg at the handle, with a shorter cable travel. This is used for lat pulldowns and low rows. If you use a single pulley, you train in 2:1: you feel half the weight and the cable travel is twice as long. This is ideal for cable crossovers, unilateral work, warm-ups, and rehabilitation.

The biggest practical advantage: progression. Where 1:1 progresses in jumps of 5 kg, 2:1 lets you increase by 2.5 kg. For lateral raises or triceps pushdowns, that is the difference between finishing a set or stopping halfway.

How the Precision works

The Precision only operates in 1:1, but the cable arms swing open 180° and are adjustable both horizontally and vertically. You can adjust the height of the pulleys in increments of approximately 5 cm, secured with stainless steel locking pins. This allows you to position the cable exactly in line with your body for wide flyes and presses, as well as narrow face pulls, rotations and rehab exercises.

Because the cable travel is shorter than that of a long-travel functional trainer, you maintain more tension in the part of the movement where it matters. Customers who train specifically for muscle mass notice this immediately. The weight you select is also the weight you pull, which makes progression in actual kilograms straightforward.

Rack or bundle?

Both bundles include, in addition to the rack and its accessories, a Martech HD3000 Military Bench (supporting up to 450 kg, 9 back positions), a 220 cm and 20 kg Olympic barbell, a 107.5 kg bumper plate set and 4 Easyclean tiles of 100 x 100 cm. The additional cost is € 800 for the Precision and € 749 for the Twinratio. If you do not have a bench and plates yet, the bundle is the logical choice.

Prices: what does a Martech M8 2IN1 cost?

During Black Friday Month, there is a pre-order promotion for the Twinratio rack: € 2,750 instead of € 3,250, with a 30% deposit and delivery in January 2027. Check the product page for current terms and conditions.

What we observe during installations

Measure your ceiling before deciding. The Twinratio is 236 cm high, the Precision 239.9 cm, although a lower version is available for the Precision. For pull-ups, you need additional head clearance above the bar. The Precision measures 175 x 125 cm on the floor; account for additional space for your bench and to move with a barbell. Weighing 375 kg plus weights, we prefer placing the rack on rubber tiles over a concrete floor.

Which one should you choose?

  • You train with variety and want solid progress on isolation exercises: choose the Twinratio. The 2:1 setup with 2.5 kg increments makes all the difference.
  • You train for muscle mass and want to determine every cable angle yourself: choose the Precision, featuring 180° swiveling arms and direct 1:1 resistance.
  • You do a lot of functional training, crossovers, or rehabilitation: choose the Twinratio for the extended cable travel in 2:1.
  • You want the sharpest entry-level budget for an M8 with cables: choose the Precision, € 350 cheaper as a rack.
  • You have a low ceiling: discuss the lower version of the Precision with us.
  • You are already pulling more than 90 kg on the cable: check out the Martech M10 with 2 x 120 kg, or read Martech M8 vs M10.
