How much does a home gym cost? Three budgets: € 2,000, € 5,000, and € 10,000
Written by Thibaud Martens, fitness advisor at Fitnessdepot
With € 2,000 you can build a complete strength corner with a half rack, adjustable bench, barbell, 107.5 kg of plates and a rubber floor (in our example € 1,963.69). With € 5,000 you get an all-in-one rack with cable station, bench, bar and plates, plus dumbbells and flooring (€ 4,957.60). With € 10,000 you can set up a full gym with an M10 rack, a dumbbell set up to 30 kg, a Concept2 rower and 20 m² of sports flooring (€ 9,692).
Below you will find a realistic setup from our own range for each budget, with real prices (including VAT, updated on October 30, 2026) that we have calculated correctly. These are examples: we are happy to adapt them to your space and your goals.
First: space, ceiling and floor
Before choosing your equipment, take a look at the space. This is easily overlooked.
- Ceiling height: racks vary in height. For example, the Martech M1 power cage is 213.5 cm high. Make sure to allow extra headroom above you for pull-ups and overhead presses.
- Access: racks, benches and storage racks come in parts and are assembled on-site. Only for cardio equipment such as a treadmill, which largely arrives in one piece, do we check the stairs and doors in advance.
- Floor: a concrete floor in a garage or basement is ideal. On an upper floor, we look at the floor load capacity and noise transmission to neighbors.
- Free zone: around a rack and a barbell you need space to load, move and train safely. A 220 cm bar sticks out on both sides.
Why the rubber floor is included in every budget
We include a rubber sports floor in every setup because a home gym without proper flooring leads to damage, noise and complaints more quickly. In the examples, we calculate with the Easy clean tile Pure black: € 44.95 per 100 x 100 x 2 cm tile, so per square meter. According to the product specifications, the tile has an 18 mm shock-absorbing underlayer, impact sound insulation of 34 dB, R10 slip resistance and a click system with 7 plug-in connections per tile. The connectors cost € 0.46 each, a corner profile € 7.50 and a ramp profile € 12.87. We calculate this finishing separately because it depends on the shape of your room.
€ 2,000 home gym: the strength corner
With € 2,000 you choose free weights: a half rack, a bench and a barbell with plates. This allows you to train the squat, bench press, deadlift, overhead press and pull-ups, which are the basis of any strength program.

The FID2000 allows flat, incline, and decline training. Prefer a cable system as well? The Martech M1 power cage Gym bundle costs € 2,100, just above this budget, and includes a power cage with top and bottom cable pulleys (1:1), the FID2000, a 20 kg Olympic barbell, and 107.5 kg of bumper plates. Home gym of € 5,000: all-in-one rack with cables

In use, the RowErg measures approximately 244 x 61 cm and splits into two parts for storage. With the remaining € 308 you can finish the flooring with connectors and profiles, or get a Concept2 floor mat (€ 55.99) to place under the rower.

What not to skimp on
- The rack. This is the foundation and will last for years. A rack that you find too light after a year will be sold at a loss.
- The floor. A damaged concrete floor or complaints from the neighbors cost more than a rubber floor.
- Safety. Spotter arms or safety bars are not a luxury when you train alone.
Where you can wait: extra attachments, a second cardio machine and heavy dumbbells. You add those when you notice what you actually use.
Practical tip: Send us a few photos and the dimensions of your room, including ceiling height and doors. We will make a free 3D design of it, so you can see what your budget looks like in your garage or basement before you order anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to set up a home gym?
A fully-fledged strength corner with half rack, bench, barbell, 107.5 kg weights and 6 m² rubber flooring costs € 1,963.69 at Fitnessdepot. A setup with an all-in-one rack and cables costs around € 5,000, and a complete gym with cardio costs around € 10,000.
What should you buy first for a home gym?
Start with a rack, an adjustable bench, a barbell with weights and a rubber floor. With that, you train all basic exercises; dumbbells, cables and cardio can be added later.
How many m² of rubber flooring do I need?
Lay at least flooring under your rack and your entire training zone, not just under the machine. In our examples, we calculate with 6 m² for a strength corner up to 20 m² for a complete gym, at € 44.95 per m².
Is an all-in-one rack worth the extra cost?
If you want to do cable exercises in addition to free weights, yes: you then have one machine instead of a rack and a separate cable station. An M8 2IN1 Twinratio bundle costs € 3,999, including bench, barbell and bumper plates.
Can I lease my home gym?
Renting and leasing at Fitnessdepot are reserved for companies with a VAT or company number. For private individuals, we work with a regular purchase, possibly in phases.
